Seveso, 50 Years Later: From Disaster to a Culture of Prevention
Fifty years after the Seveso disaster, we examine the accident, the development of Seveso legislation and the importance of chemical risk assessment.

Protex Italia and Lavoro e Ambiente took part in IRSOIL 2026, an intercomparison exercise dedicated to radon measurements in soil and water.
The initiative provides an important opportunity for technical exchange among operators and professionals in the sector, with the aim of verifying measurement methodologies, comparing results and supporting the continuous improvement of field activities.
During the intercomparison, participants carried out measurements and checks directly in the field, applying operating procedures, instruments and verification activities designed to ensure the reliability of the data. Radon measurements in soil and water require careful preparation, proper management of equipment and accurate execution of the tests.
For Protex Italia and Lavoro e Ambiente, participation in IRSOIL 2026 is part of an ongoing process of technical updating and skills development in the field of environmental radiometric measurements.
The two companies were represented by Giacomo Zambelli, Technical Manager of the Nuclear Division, and Alberto Laurenzi, Environmental Technician.
Taking part in intercomparison initiatives such as IRSOIL helps strengthen the quality of field measurements and promotes the sharing of experience and expertise among the various organisations involved in the sector.
