'A. Corberi' Physics and Radiochemistry Laboratory
The "A. Corberi" Physics and Radiochemistry Laboratory represents the technical excellence of Protex Italia. Originally established to provide internal monitoring for Radioactive Waste Disposal, the laboratory has evolved over time to serve the wider market. Today, it is a well-established entity offering Highly Specialized Technical Services.
Our core strength lies in reliability, guaranteed by accreditation according to the UNI CEI EN ISO 17025 standard and recognition as a Dosimetry Measurement Body (pursuant to Legislative Decree 101/2020).
Gamma Spectrometry

Alpha Spectrometry

The Laboratory features 10 spectrometric lines for the determination of alpha emitters, following specific radiochemical procedures. Analysis covers radionuclides with high radiotoxicity, such as uranium, thorium, polonium, plutonium, and americium, enabling detailed investigation.
Liquid scintillation

The Laboratory is equipped with 3 liquid scintillators for alpha/beta screening in environmental matrices such as water and particulate matter. Thanks to specific radiochemical techniques, low levels of alpha and beta emitters can be determined, particularly those derived from nickel-59, nickel-63, iron-55, tritium, and strontium-90.
Internal dosimetry

Through radiochemical methods or direct gamma spectrometry measurements, it is possible to determine radionuclides in matrices such as feces, urine, and excreta. The detected concentrations can be used by the RPO (Radiation Protection Officer) for dosimetric assessments regarding potential internal contamination.
Biogenic C-14

Increasing attention toward energy production and biogenic products has led the Laboratory to seek accreditation for the determination of biogenic C-14, both in stack emissions and in materials such as fuels, biofuels, biolubricants and similar products.
NORM/TENORM characterization

Materials with non-negligible concentrations of radionuclides are defined as NORM; they become TENORM if subjected to mechanical and/or chemical processes that alter their secular equilibrium. The 'A. Corberi' Laboratory determines radionuclides from the uranium and thorium series.
Radon

Using active and passive instrumentation, including SSNTD systems, the laboratory measures radon gas—a carcinogenic element prone to accumulation in indoor environments, homes, and workplaces, as well as in soil air and water.
Passive dosimetry

Passive dosimetry, among the most recent techniques introduced by the Laboratory, allows for environmental and personal assessments of the whole body, eye lens, and extremities. Every exposed worker can be monitored with passive systems to guarantee radiation protection safety.
